When women are regularly assaulted by a husband or a partner, they can hardly have a helpline number stuck on the fridge door. As one woman said, “It’s a solution that simply leads to another beating.”
The refuge created bar-code labels. Women could take a batch of these and stick them to everyday household goods pretty much as any shop would. The bar-code number is, in fact, the helpline number in disguise
